Following the events of Batman (2022), Oz Cobb, aka the Penguin, is making a play to seize the reins of Gotham’s crime world. Aside from a bat-sign in the final shot of the season finale, we never got a Robert Pattinson cameo in “The Penguin.” In this short video, IMDb attempts to answer: Where the hell was Batman? Colin Farrell fought hard to make The Penguin smoke tobacco in Batman (2022), but was unsuccessful. In his own series, however, the character is depicted as a casual tobacco user, preferring to smoke cigars. The DC Studios logo is set in a rainy Gotham alley. An umbrella falls and the logo changes to the Warner Bros. logo. Starring on The Graham Norton Show: Lady Gaga/Demi Moore/Colin Farrell/Richard Ayoade/Jack Savoretti (2024). A direct sequel to the first episode, Matt Reeves' The Batman and I think those who haven’t seen the latter are a bit lost. But I watched The Batman a while back, and this series did a wonderful job of quickly picking up where the movie left off without getting bogged down in a didactic recap. It captures both the aesthetic and the gritty tone of the film nicely, though there are far more slyly lighthearted moments in the show than in the film. As in The Batman, Colin Farrell does an excellent job of portraying the Penguin as a stereotypical mobster “street kid”: rude, profane, mercurial, and violent; but also knowledgeable, cunning, and able to read people. The character may have nothing to do with the comic book version, but he’s interesting in his own right. I have my doubts about casting The Penguin as a teenage sidekick; and I don’t know if the Penguin’s antics will be enough to sustain an entire season. But it’s off to a great start so far.
